Modris Tenisons LAT

The ancient belt of Lielvārde is Latvia’s most striking and celebrated ethnographic woven belt. The 22 archaic symbols and motifs featured in its design are associated with a number of myths and legends. Modris has developed a theory of ethnographic ornamental signage and sign coding. He was inspired to take up the subject by the Estonian artist Tõnis Vint after watching the 1980 documentary by Ansis Epners, Lielvārdes josta.
